Ovarian Cancer Research

Discovering New and Better Ovarian Cancer Treatments

The University of Michigan Rogel Cancer Center is dedicated to discovering new and better treatments that advance every aspect of treatment and quality of life for our ovarian cancer patients.

  • Our physicians are at the forefront of ovarian cancer research, including developing new methods to personalize treatment and keep cancer from returning
  • We participate in multiple statewide research-focused organizations, including the Michigan Oncology Quality Consortium (MOQC) and Michigan Ovarian Cancer Science and Innovation Consortium (MOSAIC)
  • The Rogel Cancer Center also offers opportunities for patients to participate in clinical trials through these research initiatives. Participation allows patients to receive the latest treatment approaches before they are widely available anywhere else

Designing and Studying Individualized Treatments

Gynecologic oncologists from Rogel Cancer Center collaborate with other physicians and scientists on research into improving the effectiveness of chemotherapy medications with groundbreaking laboratory techniques.

  • By using tumor cell lines derived from patients, scientists are able to test many different medications, with the goal of one day having an individualized combination for every patient.
  • Through MOSAIC, multidisciplinary teams of physicians and scientists work collaboratively to further the development and execution of ovarian cancer treatment, from prevention to survival

Research to Explore New Care Approaches

  • Rogel Cancer Center providers continually review existing published research to stay informed on the latest treatment approaches
  • Through our leadership and participation in the MOQC, we collaborate with providers from all over the state of Michigan to improve the timeliness of treatment and quality of care

Clinical Trial Opportunities

At Rogel Cancer Center, our patients may have the opportunity to participate in a clinical trial for new, innovative treatment approaches. Through clinical trials, researchers can evaluate if new methods are more effective and safer than current standards, including:

  • Effectiveness of new drugs or treatments
  • Testing of new or improved medical devices
  • Evaluation of ways to diagnose diseases earlier
  • Improvements to quality of life with disease management

With multiple clinical trials running simultaneously, our physicians and scientists will try to fit each patient to the right trial—offering access to the most advanced treatments while contributing to the future of cancer treatment.
