How to add the calendar app to mobile devices

The calendar is not a traditional "app," in that you don't need to download it from an app store. It's a webpage specifically built for use on a mobile device and intended to be placed as a short-cut onto the device's home screen.

How to add a short-cut to an Android device

  1. Launch “Chrome” app on your device
  2. Open the web page you want to pin to your home screen. In this case, the events calendar.
  3. Tap the menu icon (3 dots in upper right-hand corner) and tap Add to homescreen.
  4. You'll be able to enter a name for the shortcut and then Chrome will add it to your home screen.

How to add a short-cut to an i-phone/apple device

  1. Launch the Safari browser
  2. Open the web page you want to pin to your home screen. In this case, the events calendar.
  3. Click the share icon in the browser.
  4. Select the option 'Add to Home Screen' On the 'Add to Home' page you should be able to see the icon you uploaded on the left.

Common problems using the calendar

Unable to see “more details”

The event calendars use the Google calendar platform. If you have a gmail account, you’ll be asked to “verify it’s you” before getting into “more details.” All you need to do is enter your gmail password and you can view more about the event and/or add the event to your Google calendar. If you are a University of Michigan user, please see below.

Unable to “copy to my calendar”

The event calendars use the Google calendar platform which means it will try to add the event to your Google calendar. All you need to do is sign-in to your gmail account and you’ll be able to add the event to your Google calendar.

If you don’t have a gmail account or if you’ve never associated the device you are using to view the calendar with an email account, you won’t be able to add the event automatically.

University of Michigan users:

The University of Michigan provides a collection of Google applications, including a calendar, to ALL employees, faculty, students, etc. If you have an @umich.edu email address, you have access to these tools. To log-in to your Google applications, use your unique name with @umich.edu and sign-in with your Level 1 password.

If you have an @med.umich.edu email address, your default email / calendar is OUTLOOK because it’s HIPPA-compliant. To make access more calendar details, you need to log-in to your Google account using your @umich.edu email address and your Level 1 password.
