Rankings designed to provide insight into how universities compare across the world.
The University of Michigan ranks No. 9 among institutions globally in cancer research according to the U.S. News & World Report 2021 Best Global University Rankings.
The university was ranked No. 17 overall out of nearly 1,500 top institutions in 86 countries.
The rankings are based on factors such as global and regional research reputation, high-impact publications and international collaborations.
The U-M Rogel Cancer Center is a leading hub of cancer research at U-M, with more than 320 members based in 56 academic departments across nine schools and colleges.
“Our researchers have a multi-decade history of pioneering advances across the continuum of cancer research,” says Director Eric Fearon, M.D., Ph.D., the Emanuel N. Maisel Professor of Oncology. “This includes groundbreaking work that defines key genetic, cellular, lifestyle and environmental factors that underlie the origins and behaviors of cancer, along with contributions to the development of innovative approaches to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer more effectively.”
Additionally, the Rogel Cancer Center ranked No. 7 in the nation for research funding from the National Cancer Institute with $83.5 million in grants in fiscal year 2020. U.S. News & World Report also ranked U-M No. 1 in the state of Michigan in providing care to cancer patients.
