U-M ranked among the nation’s Best Hospitals for Pediatric Cancer

U.S. News & World Report ranked C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital No. 1 in Michigan and 24th in the nation for pediatric cancer care in its 2018 rankings of best children’s hospitals.

U-M’s pediatric cancer care earned its place by providing multidisciplinary treatment, devoted support and research geared towards finding a cure and improving current treatments. Patients are given a multidisciplinary and collaborative approach to care. Pediatric oncologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists, pathologists, radiologists and nuclear medicine physicians attend weekly treatment planning meetings in which they each provide expertise in the patient’s progress.

In addition, through the Rogel Cancer Center, U-M has developed one of the nation’s largest and most sophisticated gene sequencing programs, allowing for customized treatment plans based on each child’s own genetic cancer profile.

U-M’s focus goes beyond providing highly trained and recognized treatment teams to include support services for patients and their families throughout their medical journey. U-M offers social work team support, financial counselors, a hospital school program, full service Family Center and many other support services.

Pediatric cancers are different than adult cancers in that it isn’t clear what causes childhood cancer. Because of this, U-M puts a high emphasis on research, with the largest pediatric research effort in the state of Michigan. U-M is home to the largest pipeline of Phase 1 clinical trials designed to find new treatments for childhood cancer.
