University of Michigan surgical oncologist Lisa Newman was interviewed Wednesday on the Today Show’s official kickoff of the #PinkPower” series for National Breast Cancer Awareness month.

Donning pink along with the rest of the crowd at the Rockefeller Center plaza in Manhattan and aside former Good Morning America host and breast cancer survivor Joan Lunden, Newman discussed advances in research and treatment.

"I think the most important thing to say about breast cancer in 2014 is that we are continuing to see improvements in survival," Newman said. "Thanks to these wonderful advancements in early detection and treatment, the majority of patients in the U.S. will have a favorable outcome."

Newman, M.D., M.P.H. is the former-director of the Breast Care Center at the U-M Rogel Cancer Center. She appears roughly four minutes into the segment. See full clip here.
