It is difficult to find the right words to capture the horrific incidents we have all witnessed in the past few weeks. Yet we nonetheless join together with our communities of color, and all Americans, to express our outrage and heartbreak over the continued racism and injustice tearing at the fabric of civil society.

The tragic deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and others have yet again underscored just how much more needs to be done and how far we have to go to achieve equality and justice for all Americans.

Our Rogel Cancer Center faculty, staff and trainees strive to provide the highest quality of care for all patients, to advance research that addresses cancer disparities, and to train a diverse next generation of providers and scientists. We are committed to maintaining an inclusive and safe environment where everyone feels welcome.

While we cannot fully understand the lived experience of those who are targeted for their race, ethnicity, immigration status or sexual orientation, the entire Rogel Cancer Center leadership remains committed to building a community of respect and a culture that celebrates diversity and inclusion.

Please take the time to read messages, linked below, from our University of Michigan and Michigan Medicine leaders. We stand with them in our commitment to a better world.

Eric Fearon, M.D., Ph.D.
Director, Rogel Cancer Center
