Rogel Cancer Center joins top cancer centers in call to get cancer-preventing HPV vaccination back on track

Research has proved the HPV vaccine is effective, but vaccinations should also be coupled with preventive cervical cancer screening.

Fewer Women over 45 Screening for Cervical Cancer

Despite the fact that half of cervical cancers are diagnosed after age 49, participation in preventive screening steadily declines between ages 45 and 65.

When it comes to diagnosing cervical cancer, other gynecological exams cannot replace a HPV test — in which a small sample of cells are collected from the cervix to be examined for abnormalities.

Integrative Therapies Guidelines Receive ASCO Endorsement

Many cancer patients use alternative medicine, including supplements, massage therapy, yoga, and acupuncture, while undergoing conventional cancer care. Such therapies are usually acceptable, but patients must discuss such therapies with their oncologist, because interactions may occur.
